The bottom two sides in Group F of Euro 2024 meet as Georgia takes on the Czech Republic at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg in Saturday’s opening Euro 2024 fixture. Georgia, who are taking part in the Euros for the very first time in their history, played their part in a hugely entertaining opener against Turkey on Tuesday. They fell behind in the game on 25 minutes before getting the equaliser just 7 minutes later. The Georgians could not kick on from there and eventually lost 3-1, but they created lots of chances and showed plenty of fight in the game to suggest they could win this.
The Czech Republic came into this game after a heartbreaking defeat to Portugal in their opener. Lukas Provod put the Czechs ahead and had them dreaming, only for an own goal from Robin Hranac to level the scores just 7 minutes later. Portugal looked like they won it when Diogo Jota bundled the ball home, only for it to be ruled out for offside, and the game seemed destined to finish all square. That is until Francisco Conceicao popped up to steal all 3 points for the Portuguese. That will have knocked the wind out of the Czechs, but they’ll need to pick themselves back up here.
It looks set to be a tight game, as both nations will know that a defeat would all but mean their exit from the competition. The bookies have the Czechs as the favourites, but we’d be tempted to go for the Georgians in the match result market. Georges Mikautadze was a real handful for the Turkish defence and he is the focal point of Georgia’s attack, so he’s our pick to score first in the game. The final tip is a small bet on a 2-1 Georgia win.
