It’s all or nothing for Scotland as they take on Hungary at the MHPArena in Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon. The Scots currently sit third in Group A and nothing but a win will do if they are to have any hope of keeping their Euro 2024 dreams alive. Their opener against Germany left a lot to be desired, as the hosts ran out rampant 5-1 winners. Steve Clarke demanded a response from his men and he got it next time out against Switzerland. A battling display from The Tartan Army showed them a 1-1 draw.
After impressing massively during their qualifying campaign, Hungary have rather gone off the boil on the big stage. They fell to an opening 3-1 defeat at the hands of Switzerland and didn’t fare much better next time out as the hosts, Germany, cruised to a comfortable enough 2-0 win. Three points could be enough to sneak through to the knockouts, but they’ll need to up their game considerably if they are to achieve that here. They have some quality in their team and have shown flashes of brilliance in both games, so if they can sustain that for an entire 90 minutes, they’ll have a chance.
The bookies are struggling to separate these two in the match result market, with both coming in at odds to take the three points. Of the two, we’re siding with Scotland to get a potentially historic win. There’s a lot riding on this, so it’s likely to be cagey and tight throughout. Hungary have only managed a single goal so far, and Scotland only two themselves, so it is time to score: over 2.5 goals seems a sensible bet here. Scott McTominay has found his scoring touch and he could be one to back to score anytime.
