Ukraine and Belgium fight it out at the MHPArena in Stuttgart on Wednesday as the tournament’s most interesting group promises to come to a dramatic conclusion. It was far from a dream start to Euro 2024 for Ukraine, who were demolished 3-0 by Romania in their Group E opener. They bounced back in fine style however, coming back from a goal behind to beat Slovakia 2-1 last time out and that now has the nation full of hope again. Sergiy Rebrov’s team sit bottom of the group table, but all four sides are level on points, so a win means qualification.
This tournament may be the last chance for much of Belgium’s so-called ‘Golden Generation’. They certainly didn’t play like that when they fell to a surprising 1-0 defeat at the hands of Slovakia in their opening game. That result must have stirred something in the team, as they were much more impressive next out, beating Romania 2-0 to leave this group wide open. Romelu Lukaku was again denied a goal in that game and he’s yet to get off the mark at the tournament. He’ll be desperate to put that right here.
The bookies are siding with Belgium in the match result market, and that’s hard to argue with, given their most recent performance. Romelu Lukaku has been desperately unlucky so far, so we’re backing him to change that luck around and get the game’s first goal. Oleksandr Zinchenko will have a tough task against Jeremy Doku, so he’s our main pick to get a card, along with Mykhailo Mudryk, who will have to track back. Marten Dovbyk was La Liga’s top scorer last season, so he’s worth backing to score anytime, along with a 3-1 scoreline in the correct score market.
